Last week PETRA hosted its first Industry Panel for 2021 to discuss how engineers and geologists are using orebody learning technology.
Held in Brisbane last Thursday (18th March) the event was so popular we had to convert to a hybrid event and open online registration!
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our PETRA Industry Panel subject matter experts:
- Dr Carmen Letton, Head of Open Pit Mining Anglo American,
- Peter Johnson Chairman Maptek,
- Carmel Jacobsen Product Manager Metallurgical Coal BHP
- James Carpenter Senior Resource Geologist SRK Consulting for stimulating discussion on machine learning feedback loops for geometallurgy and product specification.
The event theme was interdisciplinary across the mine value chain – geology, mining and processing & also cross disciplinary from hard rock and coal people in attendance.
Penny Stewart provided context for the panel discussion by briefly presenting a number of key case studies showing how MAXTA orebody learning software is used by engineers and geologists to improve geometallurgical prediction in the block model (recovery, downtime and throughput), simulate drill and blast performance in variable geology to maximise crusher throughput, and optimise plant set points to maximise copper recovery. Please contact us if you would like more detailed information on these case studies.
The presentation also included a demonstration showing how MAXTADrill&Blast orebody learning simulation software is used to maximise crusher throughput. You can request a demo by clikcing here.
Key Notes from the Panellists
- There was a major focus on how machine learning models feed back actual plant/product quality performance for more timely information for decision making.
- Reconciliation occurs much faster.
We were very pleased to welcome about eighty people to the event (over 50 in person in Brisbane and close to 30 remote attendees) and a very enjoyable social and networking session was had by all which included representatives of BHP, Anglo American, Rio Tinto, CEEC, PanAust, Harmony Gold, Aurelius, MEC, MIPAC, Maptek SRK Consulting, and more.
PETRA would like to thank all the panellists and attendees, and will look forward to hosting a similar event soon on the back of this great success. Please contact us to schedule a MAXTA orebody learning software demonstration, or see receive more details on digital twin mine-to-mill (pit-to-port) case studies.
